so worry not, all things are well

with an optimistic title, let's plunge straight into the gloom....

mr kurt vonnegut died on wednesday.
"All time is all time. It does not change. It does not lend itself to warnings or explanations. It simply is. Take it moment by moment, and you will find that we are all, as I've said before, bugs in amber."
"Life is no way to treat an animal, not even a mouse."
i need to re-read what i've got, and get hold of what i haven't.....

also, johnny cash's old house is also sadly no more. i love the quote from the neighbour, that it was maybe "the good Lord's way to make sure that it was only Johnny's house".

on the good side of things......

a couple of weeks ago i started to receive strange (well, strange for him) texts from one of my friends. little bits of randomness: 'i leaned against the wall, the wall leaned away'. 'so worry not, all things are well' - the latter appeared quite a few times (and at all hours of the night).
this was followed by emails in 32pt text proclaiming 'i'm half awake in a fake empire' (normally sent at about the same time that he rolled into work)....
eventually the explanation appeared: 'boxer .... so good.'

i can't remember the last time an album i *really* wanted to hear leaked weeks in advance.
i kept up my resolve for a couple of days, and then cracked.
soulseek provided.

boxer's reportedly caused a few people in leeds to dance through hyde park, spontaneously burst into tears at bus stops, spend their entire time in a club listening to their walkman and generally feel that all is alright(ish) with the world again... hurrah.

anyway, a couple of tasters (and thanks to the lovely people who posted the tracks up):
fake empire
squalor victoria
green gloves
apartment story

*edit: the whole album is now available to stream at http://www.myspace.com/thenational

Hey Zoe,

you're probably already aware, but The National are playing The Latitude Festival (whatever that is) in the UK this year.

There's a few other good bands on the line-up too. Probably not enough to tempt me across the water, but I figured you might be interested.

thanks for that jim - i've been um-ing and ah-ing about latitude for a while, and still haven't made up my mind...
hope all's good with you your side of the water - let me know if you head over this way any time soon.
